China approves new line in Xinjiang David Gubler

CHINA’s top economic planner the National Development and Reform Commission has approved construction of an 825km railway linking Hotan and Ruoqiang in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The project has a budget of Yuan 22.2bn ($US 3.5bn) and construction is expected to take three-and-a-half years to complete.

Trains will operate at a maximum speed of 120km/h and the line will serve 69 stations.
