ARGENTINA’s Ministry of Transport published a resolution in the Official Gazette of the Republic on December 29 confirming its intention to award CRRC Qingdao Sifang a $US 316.5m contract to supply 200 EMU cars for the Buenos Aires suburban network.

The 1676mm gauge vehicles will be used on the 25kV ac Roca Line, supplementing the fleet of 42 CRRC trains already in service on this route and enabling the withdrawal of 20 Toshiba EMUs, which date from 1983.

The trains are being ordered as part of the Comprehensive Passenger Rail Transport Plan for the Metropolitan Region of Buenos Aires.
