TRANSMASHHOLDING subsidiary TMH-Argentina has won a $US 29.7m contract for the maintenance of Chinese-built locomotives and rolling stock used by Argentinean Trains (TA) to operate services on the San Martin Line from Buenos Aires to Pilar.

TMH-Argentina will be responsible for the maintenance of 24 type SDD7 diesel locomotives and 160 passenger coaches supplied by CRRC in 2013.

Maintenance will be carried out at the existing depot near Retiro San Martin station. Most employees will be experienced Argentinian engineers and technicians.

TMH engineers will organise a technical audit of the equipment, and put in place a training regime for local specialist engineers and technicians.

TMH-Argentina is also investing $US 3m in the modernisation of the rolling stock workshops at Mechita near Bragado in Buenos Aires province, where some of the work on the San Martin Line fleet will be undertaken.

TMH says it also planning further investment in the development of rolling stock production and repair facilities in Argentina.
