SWEDISH regional operator Skånetrafiken has awarded a contract to CAF to supply seven LRVs for the new light rail line in Lund and maintain them for 10 years, with an option for additional vehicles.

CAF will supply its Urbos LRV design, and each 32m-long vehicle will have five sections.

Construction of the 5.5km line with nine stops started in March 2017 following the award of a SKr 710m ($US 82m) contract by Lund Municipality to Skanska to build the line. The double-track line will connect Lund Central station with Science Village.

Test running is due to start by the end of this year with a view to opening the line in 2019.
