CZECH rail freight operator CD Cargo has launched its largest-ever procurement of new traction with the publication on January 19 of a contract notice for an international tender to supply 55 locomotives for international operations.

The procurement comprises framework contracts for up to 50 multi-system electric locomotives and five diesel locomotives. The base orders call for a minimum of 10 electric locomotives, which must have an output of at least 5.5MW under ac traction and 5MW in dc mode, together with three 2.4MW diesels. All of the locomotives will be equipped with ETCS Level 2 Baseline 3.

Delivery of the locomotives must start within 14 months of contract signing.

CD Cargo took delivery of five multi-system Siemens Vectron locomotives in 2016 for use on international trains, and placed an order for a further three units in May 2017.
