Uzbekistan launches tender for electric locomotives

UZBEKISTAN Railways (UTY) has launched a tender for 24 electric locomotives divided into 16 freight and eight passenger units to address what it describes as a chronic shortage of locomotives and to cater for traffic growth.


The procurement will be financed by a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and will be conducted in accordance with ADB’s procurement guidelines. International competitive bidding will follow a single-stage single-envelope procedure and will be open to bidders from ADB eligible-source countries.

 

The tender forms part of a railway efficiency improvement project which also includes upgrading locomotive depots and enhancing UTY’s operational performance.
